Schafberg 
The Vintage Steam Railway to the top of mount Schafberg is one of the best experiences in the Salzkammergut Lake District. From the top of the Schafberg you will experience a phenomenal view of the lakes of the Salzkammergut, such as the turquoise-blue Wolfgangsee. You can ascend there either by taking the Schafberg Railway, the historic train, or by hiking.
Atop the Schafberg, the Himmelspforte hut and the Hotel Schafbergspitze are offering regional delicacies.
The Schafberg Railway departs from St. Wolfgang and climbs 1,190 metres in altitude over 5.85 kilometres of track. The steepest sections reach a gradient of 26% — making it Austria's steepest cog railway.
