Kutna Hora
The ossuary has an interesting history. According to legend, the abbot of the Sedlec monastery, Heidenreich, brought a handful of earth from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and scattered it around the cemetery. The cemetery ground thus became part of the Holy Land, and therefore people were buried here not only from Bohemia, but also from surrounding countries.
The Church of the Holy Virgin Barbara expresses the townspeople's respect for the Body of Christ, the power of the royal city, and the tension between Prague and Kutná Hora at the time. It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1995.
